Every photographer has a drawer for the photos that don't belong anywhere.
Not rejects. Not outtakes. Images that worked — sometimes better than expected — but refused to sit inside a neat category. A furious Santa Claus. A face emerging from leaves. A wall of fame that wasn't planned.
The honest thing is to show the drawer. Not curate it, not justify it, not call it a "conceptual series" because that sounds better on a portfolio. These are photographs that survived despite having no project to protect them.
If a picture needs a category to exist, it was probably never strong enough on its own.
